Since 2011, Marie Ringler has led Ashokas organisation’s development in Austria by serving as both Executive Director of Ashoka Austria and Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe. She studied Sociology and Political Science at the University of Vienna and holds an MBA from St. Gallen School (Switzerland) and ESADE Business School (Spain). During her studies, she was involved in the development of the Institute for New Cultural Technologies’ Public Netbase, an international competence platform for the critical use of information- and communication technology. From 1998 to 2000 she served as the Director of the Public Netbase. From 2000 to 2010 she served as a congress member and city council member for Vienna. In addition to her regular duties, she also served on the Vienna Department of Commerce Advisory Board, initiated the city’s Open Source Software Strategy and developed a federal policy Program for Innovation.
Ringler is a jury member for the Social Impact Award, the Ö1 Orte in Bewegung (Cities in Motion) project contest, and the corporate social impact award fair-finance. She regularly gives lectures and presentations at Austrian and international conferences and initiates countless projects and events that focus on social entrepreneurship, impact investing, civil society, European media culture, and civil rights, as well as on new modes of communication via the internet and in the political sphere. In addition to her own publications, several interviews and articles covering her activities have appeared in Austrian and international media.
